The Miccosukee Tribe Health Department was established in the late 1960s, starting in a single room within the old Indian School. As the community’s healthcare needs grew, a dedicated health building was constructed in the 1970s, followed by a larger facility in 1999 that has served the tribe for over two decades.
Health Education services were introduced in the 1980s, focusing on wellness and preventive care. After Hurricane Andrew in 1992, the Wellness Department was added in 1993-94 through grant funding, further expanding the department’s capabilities.
In 2008, construction began on the new Miccosukee Health Center (MHC), a state-of-the-art facility that now serves as the permanent home of the Miccosukee Tribe Health Department. Over the years, the department has grown to include over 60 dedicated employees, with plans to continue expanding services to meet the evolving needs of the community. This growth reflects our commitment to providing exceptional, culturally respectful healthcare for all tribal members.
